A while ago we carried some images from the new, second series of True Detective and wondered how long it would be until it would make it onto our screens. I speculated that it would be the end of the year, but yesterday evening HBO dropped a bombshell that the eagerly-anticipated return of its crime anthology series would return much sooner than I thought.
Not only did the US cable behemoth announce the series would be returning on 21st June – WAY earlier than I expected – but it also issued a tease trailer, too.
We see Rachel McAdams, grizzled cop Colin Farrell and what looks like a tortured soul in Taylor Kitsch. We also see Vince Vaughn’s villainous property magnate – who seems to be matey with Farrell’s character. We see big property deals being promoted. In short, we see everything that made the first series such a critical success, but in a different location (LA).
Digitalspy reported this morning;
Kitsch is at the centre of True Detective‘s second season as a war veteran and California motorcycle cop who uncovers a bizarre crime scene.
The ensuing murder investigation brings together corrupt cop Ray Velcoro (Farrell), tough Ventura County sheriff Ani Bezzerides (McAdams) and career criminal Frank Semyon (Vaughn).
As for when it might appear on Sky Atlantic in the UK, although nothing has been announced by the channel yet I’m expecting it the day after on Monday 22nd April. But hey, when have I ever been right?
