Here’s something I never thought I’d write about on this site: there’s a crime, or more specifically, noir episode of Casualty tomorrow night (Saturday 11th July). For our overseas readers, Casualty is a doughty medical drama that has been trundling along on Saturday nights on British television for 30 years. And tomorrow there’s a special noir episode of the show tomorrow featuring shadowy, stylised camerawork and a femme fatale to boot. I kid you not.
Here’s the blurb for the episode, called Holby Sin City:
In a special Casualty episode written by Mark Catley, Ethan (George Rainsford, pictured) is embroiled in a complex murder case, falling for an enchanting woman called Bonnie who brings nothing but trouble. Ethan is bewitched by her and can’t help but show his concern for her wellbeing.
On night shift in the Emergency Department, Hanssen gives the team a pep-talk about improving the department. But they have no idea what’s in store for them that evening.
Iain and Dixie arrive at a tattoo parlour only to find a distraught Bonnie and her boyfriend Clyde bleeding on the floor. Bonnie hands Iain an envelope – a suicide note.
Ethan wants to resuscitate Clyde, but Hanssen reminds him that he can’t. Knowing that Ethan won’t let Clyde die, Bonnie makes out that she and Ethan have a relationship, in front of Hanssen – hoping Ethan will be taken off the case.
Ethan is suspicious that she was the one who pulled the trigger and killed her boyfriend Clyde.
