When anyone talks about Juliette Lewis I still always think of her incredible scene in Cape Fear, when the psychopathic Max Cady (Robert DeNiro) tried to seduce the teenage Danielle Bowden (Lewis). It was a mesmerising and terrifying scene, quite rightly earning Lewis and Oscar nomination for her performance. Her career has been patchy ever since, but she remains a very talented actress, and now she’s back on our screens in a new series called Secrets And Lies, which will premiere in the UK in September.
UKTV’s entertainment channel, Watch, has snapped up the rights to this 10-episode crime drama, which sounds extremely promising. Here’s what they say about it:
Ben Garner (Ryan Phillippe) is about to go from Good Samaritan to murder suspect, after he discovers the body of his neighbour’s young son in the woods. As Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) digs for the truth, the secrets and lies of this town come to the surface and no one is above suspicion. Ben’s family’s life will be turned upside down as he sets out on a complicated journey to prove his innocence in this thriller mystery from Barbie Kligman (“Private Practice”) based on the original Australian series of the same name.
That sounds pretty good to me, and I really like the whole noirish feel to it and the fact it focuses on an ordinary person who finds themselves plunged into a nightmare.
Here’s a trailer:
Look out for it in September.
