We keep saying it but there’s so much crime drama around the moment that it’s sometimes difficult to keep up with, and yes folks, this week is not different (we keep saying that, too). There are two new series – one Scandi-like series and one actual Scandi series – and loads of new episodes. We hope there’s plenty of room on your DVRs!

  1. River *NEW UK PREMIERE SERIES*
Stellan Skarsgard and Nicola Walker star in this brand-new, Abi Morgan-penned drama that’s right out of the Scandi drawer. Respected police officer John River, a gifted cop with a troubled mind, struggles to come to terms with the recent loss of a close colleague, and chases a potential suspect across London – with tragic consequences. Now at odds with authorities both within and outside of the police service, River finds himself in a precarious position as he seeks to bring closure to the mother of murdered teenager Erin Fielding, who blames him for failing to keep his promise to bring her daughter back alive.
    Tuesday 13th October, 9pm, BBC1

2. Arne Dahl *NEW UK PREMIERE SERIES*
New second series of this high-octane, Swedish police drama. The A Unit is rapidly reunited to trace an assassin targeting Polish women in hiding in Sweden, but new recruit Ida struggles to fit in, while former member Paul Hjelm’s personal dilemmas cloud his work at Internal Affairs. The return of the specialist police team drama, based on novels by Arne Dahl.

4. Unforgotten *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
Having identified the body in the cellar as Jimmy Sullivan, Cassie visits the victim’s mother, who is relieved that she might finally find out what happened to her son 39 years after he went missing. The detectives focus their investigation on the names in Jimmy’s diary, who are revealed to be a government advisor, a priest, a retired bookkeeper and a housewife with a secret past. What part, if any, could these four wildly different people have played in Jimmy’s disappearance and demise?
Thursday 15th October, 9pm, ITV

5. Lewis *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
The second part of last week’s series’ opener. Despite encountering suspicion from new Chief Superintendent Joe Moody, it seems Lewis’s decision to come out of retirement could not have come at a better moment for Oxfordshire Police. The murder of the young avant-garde artist Talika Desai is linked to the unidentified human remains discovered in the well, and the subsequent investigation takes Lewis, Hathaway and the team deep into a world of drugs, social media, alternative art and the growing Eastern European homeless community.

6. From Darkness *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
Claire flees to the safety of the Western Isles after a direct threat to her life, and is convinced she is being watched. John also comes under pressure to crack the case before his misconduct review, and the two come up with a reckless plan that could cost them both dearly if they fail.

7. CSI: Cyber *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
gent Avery Ryan and her team investigate when car service company ZoGo’s dispatch software is hacked, leading to the death of a private military contractor, who is electrocuted by a driver posing as a ZoGo chauffeur. Investigations suggest both a phishing scammer and a disgruntled former employee may be the culprit. Meanwhile, Daniel confronts a tragic event from his past.

8. Agatha Christie’s Poirot
Series 10 opener. The sleuth finds himself in interesting company as English socialites and American millionaires rub shoulders on board a train bound for the French Riviera. With members of the aristocracy crammed into a confined space with their husbands, lovers and a renowned gemstone, murder cannot be far away. With Lindsay Duncan, Roger Lloyd Pack and James D’Arcy.
