There’s no doubt about it, Ripper Street has, sneakily, become one of the best British crime dramas out there. It has greatly benefitted from its series-saving deal with Amazon, series three being much more polished and better plotted. Series three’s major arc concluded with Inspector Reid (Matthew Mcfadyen) seemingly now out of the picture and finally getting to spend some quality time with the daughter he thought he had lost by the coast. But wait! Check this trailer out and you’ll see that Reid isn’t quite done yet…
As trailers go, it looks pretty excellent and showcases a slight shift in colour palette. Oh, and Queen Vic herself makes an appearance (as do telephones) in the lead-up to her Diamond Jubilee, which means that this is the year 1897.
With Drake and Jackson having to deal with the fall-out from Susan’s arrest and new foe (David Threlfall’s Abel Croker) making himself known, this new season looks very promising indeed.
The series debuts on Amazon Prime in January, and then, like earlier this year, will be shown on BBC1 later in 2016.
