The 10 Best Crime Dramas This Week (Monday 7th – Sunday 13th December)


PreyAs we head into the final month of the year, there’s no let up in crime drama on our tellyboxes. If anything things are set to hot up during festive period, with Chris Lunt’s Prey starting again this week, Luther the week after and then And Then There Were None and Sherlock looming large on the horizon. What a time to be alive.

    Chris Lunt’s high concept, three-part thriller returns for a second series, this time following the story of a prison officer who is forced on the run with a young female prisoner when his daughter is kidnapped. DS Reinhardt has a new prey in her sights – but she is unaware of the threat against Murdoch.
    Wednesday 9th December, 9pm, ITV

Burglars become entangled in the hunt for the killer when they unwittingly uncover two new victims. Henrik immediately realises the state of the bodies reflects another Freddie Holst art work – Cancel Christmas. The murdered pair were foster carers, and while Saga and Henrik await the arrival of a list of their charges, John’s new girlfriend Tina provides an intriguing new lead.

Hanzee gets busy searching for Peggy and Ed, while Dodd finds himself in unfamiliar territory.

4. The Frankenstein Chronicles *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
Boz publishes a newspaper article about the murders and causes a public outcry, while Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, follows her own line of enquiry into the medical practice of Sir William Chester. Elsewhere, Marlott decides to go back to Greenwich where it all began to see whether he is missing something.

Robert is unwittingly involved in the pursuit of a dangerous criminal gang, in which Donna must think quickly to save the day. However, personal ramifications threaten to jeopardise the job she loves. Meanwhile, Carl is given a disturbing insight into his boss’s personal life when he and Felix investigate the disappearance of a teenage girl. But when Carl returns home, his wife has an even bigger surprise in store for him.

Holmes and Watson look into the murder of a lab technician who had a secret life – leading them to several suspects. An NYPD detective starts looking into Watson’s activities.
Thursday 10th December, 10pm, Sky Living

Following a teenager’s death, the team tracks down a killer who hacks popular online games to convince vulnerable teenagers to deliver weapons purchased from the dark web.

Phryne hosts a tournament to raise money for female tennis players, but ends up facing her greatest fear when the practice partner of a rising star is fatally bitten by a spider.

9. Sherlock Holmes – The Case Of The Silk Stocking
Before Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman there was Rupert Everett and Ian Hart. When a girl’s body is dragged from the Thames, the police assume she was a prostitute, but Holmes is quick to spot clues indicating she was a lady – and thus begins an investigation into a mystery that threatens to overwhelm Edwardian aristocratic society.
Friday 11th December, 8pm, Drama

10. Broadchurch
Series two rumbles on. As Hardy and Ellie continue their unofficial investigation into the Sandbrook case, new information forces them to re-evaluate the things they believe – is it possible that they’ve been wrong about everything so far? Barrister Sharon receives unexpected help, while local reporter Olly Stevens gets a major scoop.
