One of the most eagerly awaited TV events of the year is the return of Happy Valley, Sally Wainwright’s award-winning ‘northern noir’. Series one garnered all sorts of lavish critical praise, not least from this site, and the impending grimfest has got TV viewers into a lather. Although there has been no word from the BBC (final schedules are generally released on the Wednesday of each week), we do know it starts in the week starting Monday 8th February. Now we know more.
The excellent PR company who handles Happy Valley tweeted this out this afternoon:
Here’s what we know so far bout Happy Valley series two: Catherine (Sarah Lancashire), the no-nonsense police sergeant is back and heading up her team of dedicated police officers in The Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. With Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) firmly behind bars, Catherine suspects there may be another serial killer on the loose and makes a gruesome discovery that will have shocking repercussions for her and her family. Meanwhile, a new detective, DS John Wadsworth (Kevin Doyle) arrives on the block with his own set of problems, and despite being firmly under lock and key, Tommy forms a bond with a mysterious female admirer(Shirley Henderson).
So there we have it: hold onto your hats.
