When Rowan Atkinson was announced as the new Maigret, it felt like a polarising appointment. But I could see why he was cast, and it seemed to me if it worked out it would be an interesting and potentially inspired piece of casting. We’re edging towards transmission of the first film (we’re talking only weeks away, here), which ITV hopes, no doubt, will fill that heritage crime drama slot recently vacated by Marple and Poirot. The good news is that there’s an extended, first-look trailer, which you can watch after the jump.
The first in an initial output of two films, Maigret Sets A Trap also features Fiona Shaw, Aiden McCardle, Shaun Dingwall, Lucy Cohu, Leo Starr, Rufus Wright, Hugh Simon, David Dawson, Colin Mace and Rebecca Night. Here’s the trailer:
I went to the launch screening of Maigret Sets A Trap and enjoyed it (although I can’t write about it yet), especially the beautifully realised 1950s Parisian streets (the two films were actually filmed in Budapest).
Look out for Maigret Sets A Trap (very) soon.
