PLEASE, JUST BLOODY CALM DOWN CRIME DRAMA WORLD. OK? I need to do some actual work here. What is it about yesterday and today? Already we’ve had news from The Bridge (here), Witnesses (here), Bosch (here), Sheridan Smith (here), something from ITV and Red Productions (here), So it has been quite a 24 hours or so, all-in-all. Now one of the other ‘big’ crime dramas has an announcement, coming directly from a Twitter feed purporting to be affiliated with the show’s award-winning star, Sarah Lancashire and a national newspaper this morning. Read on.
Yesterday, we had showrunner Hans Rosenfeldt confirming that there will be a fourth series of The Bridge, and now we have a twitter feed that claims to ‘support’ Sarah Lancashire confirming… *drumroll*… a third series of Happy Valley.
It should be noted there is currently no confirmation from either Red Productions or the BBC just yet.
In fact, when asked to comment, Red Productions said this:
But then The Mirror carried a new story this morning saying that the show had indeed been recommissioned. Read that story here.
Channels and production companies often like to time recommissioning news to dovetail with the transmission of the finale, so while I can well believe it’ll be coming back, I’ll wait for confirmation.
If this is indeed legit news, what will this entail? Another botched kidnapping? More Tommy Lee Royce?
Only time will tell. We’ve got the finale of series two get through, first!
The series two finale of Happy Valley is on Tuesday 15th March, 9pm, BBC1
