The story of how the Twin Peaks revival came to be will make one heck of a DVD extra documentary one day. We’ve had contract wrangles and rumour after rumour, especially about the cast. Would Kyle MacLachlan be returning? Would Sherilyn Fenn and Sheryl Lee be returning? What about new members of the cast? Naomi Watts? Laura Dern? The rumours have been spat out with fierce frequency, and yet there had been, up until this point, no confirmation. Until today. It’s best to take a sit down and prepare yourself – there are 217 cast members in total and an intriguing array of new additions, including some famous musicians.
So, here are the returning actors, according to a report in Variety:
Mädchen Amick, Phoebe Augustine, Richard Beymer, Scott Coffey, Catherine E Coulson, Julee Cruise, Jan D’Arcy, David Duchovny, Sherilyn Fenn, Miguel Ferrer, Warren Frost, Harry Goaz, Andrea Hays, Gary Hershberger, Michael Horse, David Patrick Kelly, Sheryl Lee, Peggy Lipton, Bellina Martin Logan, David Lynch, Kyle MacLachlan, James Marshall, Everett McGill, Walter Olkewicz, Kimmy Robertson, Wendie Robie, Carlton Lee Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Charlotte Stewart, Al Strobel, Carol Struycken, Russ Tamblyn, Ray Wise, Alicia Witt, Grace Zabriskie.
So, from that little lot it seems most of the main players are back, including Laura Palmer herself (Sheryl Lee).
But what of the new cast? You can pore through the list yourself when you have a spare couple of hours, but here are the names that jumped out at me:
Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Michael Cera, Larry Clarke, Jeremy Davies, Laura Dern, Francesca Eastwood (daughter of Clint if you were wondering), Robert Forster, Balthazar Getty, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Matthew Lillard, Trent Reznor, Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, Tom Sizemore, Sharon Van Etten, Eddie Vedder, Naomi Watts, Jessica Szohr.
Now that’s a serious amount of actors. Some of the new additions have, it should be noted, worked with Lynch before, so it’s no surprise they’re popping up but the big question that comes from finding out about a cast as big as this? Surely there are more than one or two series in the pipeline to accommodate all this talent? (See our story here about more than one Twin Peaks revival series). Otherwise, that’s a heck of a lot of cameos.
