The 10 Best Crime Dramas This Week (Monday 9th – Sunday 15th May)

The_SecretITV’s The Secret has ascended to the top of this week’s chart of things to watch in the coming seven days. Starring James Nesbitt and Genevieve O’Reilly it has really impressed me, but, as ever, there are some continuing series that are worthy of your attention.

1 The Secret *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
With whispers in the community and lingering police suspicions, Colin and Hazel are prevented from being together until the Coroner’s `suicide’ verdicts put an official end to the speculation. Later, Hazel feels so guilty she cannot be physical with Colin except under the influence of increasingly powerful drugs, so puts an end to their toxic relationship. Both meet new partners and move on, but when Colin’s eldest son Matthew dies in a freak accident, Colin becomes convinced that God is punishing him for the murders.

2 Hinterland
When a body is discovered in a remote lake, it leads Mathias and the team to investigate the complicated private life of a missing teacher from a small rural school, which in turn causes them to enter a world of secrets.

3 Peaky Blinders *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
On the orders of the secretive Economic League, Tommy goes to London to meet the wildly eccentric and volatile Duke Leon – and when he is given his mission, he soon realises the extreme lengths his new paymasters are willing to go to in their quest for power. Back in Birmingham, John’s temper gets the better of him, and a personal dispute with the Italians threatens to explode into a devastating war. Tommy struggles to regain control of the situation – only to discover how extensive his new enemy’s hold on the Peaky Blinders is.

Just as Mark think he’s getting close to the truth, he discovers devastating information that makes him question everything about his family. Meanwhile, Danny reaches rock bottom when Ray’s return almost ends in tragedy and Ally enlists the help of Pru on a seemingly fruitless mission to finally crack the case.

7 Gamorrah *NEW UK PREMIERE SERIES*
The return of the Italian crime drama based on the Robert Saviano’s bestselling book, painting a portrait of the brutal Neapolitan crime syndicate the Camorra, as seen through the eyes of Ciro Di Marzio, the obedient and self-confident right-hand man of the organisation’s godfather Pietro Savastano.

8 Cadfael
The sleuthing 12th-century monk investigates a murder as the Abbey becomes involved in the war between King Stephen and the Empress Maud. The trail of clues leads him to a cache of hidden treasure and the fleeing daughter of the castle’s owner, Godith.
Thursday 12th May, 8pm, Drama

9 Jack Irish
Jack is set on claiming vengeance, and his friends do all they can to pacify him. Harry and Cam turn his attention to a prospective equine venture, while Barry Tregear threatens him with the full force of the law. Plus, Linda returns from the Philippines to care for him.
Friday 13th May, 10pm, FOX

10 Murdoch Mysteries *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
The detective and Brackenreid unwittingly put their careers at risk when they investigate high-level police corruption.
