The Killing Times’ Euro 2016 Of Crime Drama: Inspector Montalbano (Italy) v Salamander (Belgium)

EURO2016We’re back to Group C today after yesterday’s titanic Group B struggle between Celtic nations Wales and Scotland, or Hinterland and Shetland. Today’s fixture sees Italy’s Inspector Montalbano take on Belgium’s Salamander. Neither are expected to make it that far in the tournament, but they’re both popular and might just scrape into the quarter-finals. Let’s see how they got on.

First, let’s recap yesterday’s game between Hinterland and Shetland. We always knew it was going to be close, but Shetland got its noses in front early and managed to hold onto the lead despite some pressure from the Welsh team. In the end, this was the result:

Shetland 63%
Hinterland 37%

That means after two games the Group B table looks like this:

The Bridge (P1 W1 L0 POINTS 3 WM +88%)
Shetland (P1 W1 L0 POINTS 3 WM +23%)
Hinterland (P1 W0 L1 POINTS 0 )
Cenk Batu (P1 W0 L1 POINTS 0)
But now onto today’s game. Let’s have a look at the form, it could be a close one:

Form guide:
Having one of the most popular players in the tournament, Salvo Montalbano, might not be enough for this show to proceed further than the group stages. A solid team enough, with an excellent diet envied across the continent, look for the show to win a few games.

Form guide:
Paul Gerardi is a real throwback to the 1980s golden age of sporting tournaments – all tight perms and beards – and we reckon if he was a footballer he’d wear the type of shorts that would leave nothing to the imagination. His unconventional (and some might argue reckless) approaches to investigation mark him out as one to watch, but he’s a loner and doesn’t offer a depth of squad.
