American crime drama is going through a bit of a fallow time at the moment. It’s all solid but unspectacular procedurals, and nothing too meaty. However, the odd series is still well worth a watch – Rectify is great, and so is Justified. The latter, set in Kentucky, is as grimy as they come and well worth a watch, even though Channel 5 and its affiliate channels continue to muck about with the scheduling.

Series two. The squad are called out to the scene of an unfolding tragedy as the drama following the officers of Montreal’s District 19 returns for a new series. Reports are received of an armed student on a shooting spree at a city high school. It soon becomes clear that some of the officers are better equipped to handle the situation than others. Tyler does not give a great account of himself, while Legare’s efforts have mixed results. Nick and Ben eventually take the gunman down, but the loss of life has been extensive. Nick offers Ben what comfort he can, which only serves to compound the anguish that his partner feels over an unrelated matter.
