It’s time for the second quarter-final, which sees one of the tournament favourites, Sweden’s The Bridge, take on surprise team of the tournament, The Lens from the Czech Republic. The Bridge strolled through qualifying, and it’s easy to suggest that it will blow away The Lens. But is there a surprise on the cards? A place in the semi-finals is at stake!
Yesterday’s first quarter-final was a one-sided affair, with France’s Spiral easing past its Italian opponent, Inspector Montalbano:
Inspector Montalbano 17%
That means Spiral goes through to the first semi-final, while we say ciao to Inspector Montalbano. Spiral will play the winner of these two:
REPRESENTING SWEDEN: THE BRIDGE
Form guide: One of the favourites, The Bridge caused controversy because of deciding to represnt Sweden, despite its heavy Danish connections. This team features one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers. Saga Norén has an intensity and instinct that makes her hard to stop, and she forms an irresistible partnership with Martin Rohde (who caused yet more controversy when he decided to represent Sweden for this tournament, despite actually being Danish), while out on the wing newcomer Henrik Sabroe provides a fresh take on things. John Lundqvist in the middle of the park is dangerous, too. The big question mark is whether Rohde, who has been out of action for a year, will make the team in time.
REPRESENTING THE CZECH REPUBLIC: THE LENS
Form guide: An unheralded drama from the Czech Republic, traffic photographer-turned-cop Roman Kadlec is a prodigious talent although some would argue shy and sensitive on the field. His partnership with sparky Nikola Bárdyová is, however, one to watch, and potentially one of the most complimentary in the tournament.
