It’s almost the end of the Euro 2016 Of Crime Drama, and it’s time, today, for the second semi-final, which sees England’s Happy Valley (who saw off Iceland’s Trapped in an epic quarter-final) take on Denmark’s The Killing. It’s too close to call, so get voting!
Yesterday’s first semi-final saw France’s Spiral take on Sweden’s The Bridge. It was fairly close but in the end, this happened:
The Bridge 62%
This equates to (almost) a 2-1 scoreline, so it was pretty close. But Saga Norén and co will contest the final. Against one of these two teams:
REPRESENTING ENGLAND: HAPPY VALLEY
Form guide: A tricky selection this, with plenty of others showing strong form and pushing their case for representation (Line Of Duty can feel particularly hard done by, for instance). In the end, Sally Wainwright’s tale of northern noir won out. It features a strong central striker in Cawood – an old-fashioned number-nine targetwoman, if you like – who likes to out it about a bit and get results anyway she can. More often than not she achieves what she sets out to do, thanks to a bloody-minded streak. It’s not just Cawood though – there’s an impressive supporting cast, especially Cawood’s sister Clare Cartwright. Happy Valley will be relying on this familial relationship to score points on the field.
REPRESENTING DENMARK: THE KILLING (SEEDED TEAM)
Form guide:The veteran in the tournament, The Killing nonetheless is still a dangerous team and is viewed as one of the favourites to win the trophy. Sarah Lund spearheads the show’s formidable challenge, and her obsessive attention to detail and relentless drive still marks her out as one of the best players in the world, let alone Europe. Look out for burly Theis Birk Larsen at the back, the enigmatic Troels Hartmann in midfield and Jan Meyer up front with Lund. It’s a shame Meyer can’t stay fit because together, these two ar a very strong partnership. A big contender nonetheless.
