As long-time readers will know by now, I’m always trying to keep an eye on what’s happening in Scandinavia and the Nordic region when it comes to crime drama because, well, it’s Scandinavian and Nordic, and you never know what might get picked up for transmission in the UK. The latest show I’ve stumbled across is by British writer and director Colin Nutley, who has been working in Sweden for some years.
Missing – not to be confused with Harry and Jack Williams’ The Missing – will, according to Nordisk Film & TV, be shown on New Year’s Day on Swedish channel TV4’s streaming service, C More.
Nutley’s first drama in two decades stars his long time muse Helena Bergström as Superintendent Maja Silver from Stockholm national police department. She returns to her small town in the middle of the Swedish Bible belt to be reunited with her daughter (Molly Nutley from Thicker than Water). When an emaciated girl is found murdered Maja is embroiled in an intense search for the truth.
“Missing depicts what happens when fear takes hold of a small community, where everyone has their own secrets. It’s like a car crash in slow motion”, said Nutley.
