Showtime and Sky Atlantic confirms Twin Peaks transmission date

twin-peaksIf you read our Quite Large Crime Drama Preview For 2017 (here if you haven’t), one of the things that included was the return of Twin Peaks, David Lynch’s era-defining crime show that crossed dimensions and introduced us to myriad much-remembered characters. So we all know it’s back this year, but until this moment didn’t know when. Autumn? Summer? Yes, probably summer. Now Showtime, the show’s new US home, has revealed the start date.

There’s nothing much else to say about this apart from ‘Woohoo!’

With an enormous cast and a plot that’s still being kept very secretive, the thing that I’m interested to see is whether Twin Peaks will still fit into today’s drama landscape. It never quite did back in the 1990s, standing out on its own, but the landscape has shifted significantly since then. We routinely see the weird and wonderful, not least from the recent The OA on Netflix – another cross-dimensional mystery show – and drama now is sophisticated and meaty. Let’s see where Twin Peaks fits into all that.

In terms of a UK transmission date, this is what Sky Atlantic had to say:

Time to start baking that cherry pie.
