The 10 Best Crime Dramas This Week (Monday 13th – Sunday 19th March)

This week sees the start of one of the more anticipated crime dramas of the year – French/Swedish effort, Midnight Sun. Set in the Sami communities in northern Sweden we’ve heard very good things about it and can’t wait to dig in. Elsewhere, Broadchurch continues apace, while SS-GB comes to a conclusion. Enjoy!

1 Midnight Sun *NEW UK PREMIERE SERIES*
The brutal murder of a French citizen sees a French homicide investigator, Kahina Zadi, go to Kiruna in Sweden to investigate the horrific crime.

2 Broadchurch *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE*
Hardy and Ellie appeal to Trish to be more open with them as she may have information that – although not related to the attack – could help the investigation, but she is unwilling to co-operate. The officers of Broadchurch CID are slowly making their way through the painstaking process of interviewing witnesses and collecting statements and start to uncover inconsistencies and lies – and previously hidden connections between Trish and some suspects.

4 SS-GB *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODE* *SERIES FINALE*
Archer and Harry have to get the frail king out of London by ambulance and turn to Sylvia for help. While they are able to evade capture by collaborators, they realise too late that they have been led into a deadly trap. Barbara is interrogated by Kellermann, but is saved by an intervention from the US embassy – however, she still faces being deported from the UK. As US forces land in the UK, it emerges that the data for the atomic bomb is incomplete, while Kellermann takes steps to outmanoeuvre Huth.

Following the revelation of the red Jaguar in George and Mary Collins’ garage, the pair protest their innocence about their daughter’s final days – but the case against them hardens when forensics officers discover further signs of violence against Julie Ann in their home. With the timeline of Julie Ann’s injuries not adding up, Jane pursues a witness who say Eddie visited George Collins the night before her death, while Clifford Bentley is released from prison and returns home to a hero’s welcome.

A former professional eSports video player is murdered during a live stream. Shinwell asks Watson’s advice when his daughter asks to see him for the first time in five years.

The detective investigates when the dog of a socialite is found dead, while the void left by Brackenreid’s latest absence is filled by the arrival of Detective Watts.

A groom-to-be is shot dead while on a hunting excursion during his stag trip. Though apparently an accident, none of his accompanying friends will admit to firing the bullet.
