So, what is happening with Hinterland? Series three of the Welsh procedural premiered on S4C last year in its original, eight-part, Welsh-language version. For spoilery reviews, go here. A few weeks ago it appeared in its second incarnation – the eight-part, English-language version on BBC Wales. There is no episode this week on BBC Wales. Next Saturday also sees the premiere of the BBC Four version – four, feature-length episodes in English. Confused? Elsewhere, there are series finales of Midnight Sun and Murdoch Mysteries. Enjoy!

The killing of a local minister leads DCI Tom Mathias and DI Mared Rhys to a remote community in the mountains, where they are confronted by a family in grief and a community in shock. The pair must tread carefully as they investigate the life and violent death of the troubled victim.

Moody must choose between being labelled a grass and risking violent retribution or protecting the killer and facing jail time. But an unexpected result from the forensic tests on the firearm leaves the entire investigation hanging in the balance.

Leonard gets caught up in an armed robbery at the village post office, and manages to identify the masked culprit. Geordie takes no chances when going to arrest the criminal, who has a record of similarly violent crimes – but is surprised to discover that the suspect has been murdered. Meanwhile, a second robbery occurs, carried out by a man and a woman who have adopted the dead robber’s trademark of disguising himself with a gas mask. Back at the Vicarage, the atmosphere is tense between Sidney and Amanda.

8 Life On Mars
Sam is called to a murder at a textiles factory, which he is shocked to discover will be his own home in the 21st century. He puts his knowledge of forensics into use to find the killer, but Gene has a simpler approach – the first suspect to speak did it. As battle lines are drawn across CID, it becomes increasingly clear that the Seventies method of detection may in this case be right.

9 Law & Order: UK
Series six. A tragic communication error between officers leaves gay police constable Nick Bentley caught in the crossfire of armed drug dealers, with no back-up. Brooks and Devlin follow a lead to a small-time dealer who claims to have seen a second policeman standing nearby, doing nothing while his partner bled to death. The story shocks the detectives and their boss Chandler as they investigate a homophobic religious group at the centre of the incident involving members of their own force.
