Just when you thought that the summer months would be quiet when it comes to crime drama, a whole phalanx of new shows have been slotted into June and will run throughout subsequent weeks. At this rate, I’ll be watching them during the barbecues. Two of these news shows are on ITV – The Loch and Fearless – and now we know when they’ll be starting.
The Loch stars Laura Fraser, Siobhan Finneran and John Sessions as characters in a community nourished and sustained by myth and bordered by untamed nature. The search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death for local detective Annie Redford (Fraser) who is trying to cope with her first murder case. When the body of local man Niall Swift is found at the foot of Carn Mohr Mountain and an isolated human heart on the loch shore, the town’s normality is shattered and the nightmare begins. Chillingly, the beautiful scenery, undulating Highlands and vast expansive loch becomes a character in it’s own right adding a haunting depth to the community’s plight.
Meanwhile, Fearless is written by Homeland writer and executive producer Patrick Harbinson and stars Helen McCrory as Emma Blunt, a solicitor known for defending lost causes. She’s investigating the killing of a schoolgirl in East Anglia and trying to free the man she thinks was wrongly convicted of the girl’s murder. As she digs ever deeper into the case, she begins to sense powerful forces, in the police and the intelligence services at home and abroad, who want to stop her uncovering the truth.
Look out for guests appearances by Michael Gambon and Wunmi Mosaku.
The Loch: Sunday 11th June, 9pm, ITV
Fearless: Monday 12th June, 9pm, ITV
