Canal + releases series six trailer for Spiral; series seven to be the last?

Things are hotting up in the world of superior French crime drama, Spiral (Engrenages). We know that series six is just around the corner, and wrapped filming earlier in the year. Although it looks set to premiere in France in September, there’s still no word as to when it might appear on British screens. In the meantime, the wheels of publicity are starting to turn. Not only was the first episode screened at the recent MIP TV event in Cannes, a new trailer has been released. Read on for more!

What do we know about series six? The main case for Laure Berthaud (Caroline Proust) and her team to crack concerns a human body found inside a sports bag. Ew.

“It’s a piece of body, a piece of barbeque,” said Philippe Duclos, who plays Judge Roban. “This is not insignificant. All the characters will be beaten in their bodies during the season.” This is particularly true for Roban: the magistrate’s health continues to deteriorate. There’s also the question of Berthaud’s baby…

Elsewhere, lawyer Joséphine Karlsson (Audrey Fleurot), depressed, sees ghosts of her former love (Pierre Clément, played by Grégory Fitoussi); Gilou (Thierry Godard), still so sad, moves with his girlfriend Cindy; and Tintin’s (Fred Bianconi) marriage breaks down a little more. So it looks like another cheery series for our Parisian law enforcers.

“We did not want to talk about terrorist attacks, there is no question of terrorism,” said showrunner Anne Landois. “Our goal is not to stick to the news. Part of the story takes place in Seine-Saint-Denis and deals with the complicated relations between the police and the population, and inside the police. From this point of view, it is almost reality that catches up with fiction.”

Another little tidbit: series seven is already in development, and it’s likely that it will be the last.

Here’s the trailer (in French)…
