Mark Billingam’s 14 Tom Thorne novels have helped to establish him as one of Britain’s most popular and best-selling writers. Sky’s adaptations of Sleepyhead and Scaredy Cat were a success, but we heard some time ago that two of his stand-alone novels (although they have connections to the Thorne novels) – In The Dark and Rush Of Blood – were to be broadcast by the BBC. Now we know when In The Dark will be appearing.
Adapted by Danny Brocklehurst, In The Dark is a four-parter, appearing on BBC One.
As DI Helen Weeks (MyAnna Buring) grapples apprehensively with pregnancy, she’s compelled to return to her loathed rural hometown of Polesford, Derbyshire with her partner and fellow detective Paul (Ben Batt). Two girls have been abducted and the man arrested is married to Helen’s childhood best friend, Linda Bates (Emma Fryer).
As a result, Linda has been drawn into the centre of a media storm and the local police force is under enormous pressure to get their man. But is he guilty? And why is Helen so desperate to come to Linda’s aid, after avoiding Polesford for all these years?
We’ll soon find out…
In The Dark: Tuesday 11th July, 9pm, BBC One
