The 10 Best Crime Dramas This Week (Monday 16th – Sunday 22nd October)

It’s starting to get busy in crime drama land. (When isn’t it?) Rellik and Liar come to a close this week, but starting over on ITV Encore is series two of bonkers Nordic Noir, Jordskött, and the BBC’s 17th-century mystery, Gunpowder. There’s also something I missed last week – series two of Riverdale over on Netflix, which gets a new episode every week. Enjoy!

Vincent is tempted by a lucrative offer from Rudy, Candy attracts some unwanted attention and is intrigued by a legitimate suitor.

Following the death of Elizabeth I, King James of Scotland claims the English throne, and the country goes to war with Catholic Spain. As a result, English Catholics are persecuted and driven into hiding, but after witnessing the brutal means by which the Crown intends to punish his people for practicing their faith, recusant Catholic Robert Catesby devises a treasonous plot to assassinate King James. However, he must first enlist the aid of stalwart allies, and heads to Brussels to seek the help of a hardened war veteran named Guy Fawkes.

Franklin is determined to recover his stolen money and get revenge on the people who took it, and Leon knows someone who might be able to help him achieve his goals. Teddy receives an unexpected visitor just as he and Alejandro are setting up a major arms deal, while Oso, Lucia and Pedro need a fall guy to hand over to Ramiro.

An employee is accused of killing his boss after he is found standing over the body by the police. Annelies and her team complete their investigation and are convinced that he must be guilty. However, following a presentation by Annelies to his students, Professor T wonders whether they are sending the wrong man to trial. Commissioner Flamant is drawn into Rabet’s formal inquiry when it becomes apparent that she didn’t officially report his drinking problem. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Daan and Annelies.

10 James M Cain’s Double Indemnity
Walter Huff has a good steady job in the insurance business and leads a quiet life. Then he meets and falls in love with Phyllis, an unhappily married woman, who is enquiring about accident insurance for her husband. They come up with a plan in which Phyllis’ husband will die an unlikely death, by falling from a moving train. The ‘accidental’ nature of his demise will trigger the double indemnity clause of the policy, forcing the insurance company to pay the widow twice the normal amount. The couple carry out their plan but things soon turn sour. The Insurance Investigator is suspicious, and so are Phyllis’ daughter and her mysterious boyfriend Nino.

    Bloody hell, that’s quick. Series 2 of Jordskott starts on SVT today and it’s being broadcast in the UK in a matter of days?
