If we were to pick a recurring theme in this year’s crime drama genre, it’d be the dramatisation of true crime stories. We’ve had The Moorside and Three Girls from the BBC, while ITV has given us the likes of Little Boy Blue. Now we have another – a four-part series from ITV depicting the infamous Hatton Garden robbery.
Written by Jeff Pope, Hatton Garden depicts the audacious jewellery and cash burglary at the heart of London’s diamond district executed by an elderly gang of career criminals across the Easter Bank Holiday weekend in April 2015.
Timothy Spall, Kenneth Cranham and Brían F. O’Byrne, recently seen in Jeff Pope’s real-life drama, Little Boy Blue, will play leading roles. Fellow distinguished actors David Hayman, Alex Norton, Ian Puleston-Davies, Geoff Bell and Nasser Memarzia also join the cast.
The series – stripped Monday to Thursday – tells the inside story of how the men pulled off the heist which was considered in a class of its own in terms of scale and ambition, and the extraordinary level of planning, preparation and organisation required to penetrate the vault of the Hatton Garden Safety Deposit Company.
Hatton Garden: from Monday 11th December, 9pm, ITV
