Ann Cleeves and Brenda Blethyn reveal that Vera will return for a ninth series in 2019

Vera – the ITV drama based on the novels by Ann Cleeves and starring Brenda Blethyn – is such a solid and enjoyable watch on a Sunday evenings, and the ratings for series eight have certainly proved it: over six million people (6.1 yesterday) have watched it for the past four weeks, making it one of the most popular crime shows on British television. Its many fans will be delighted to hear that it’ll be back for more in 2019.

Hi Paul. Good news about Vera. If only they would give us more episodes per season. It seems like for most of the UK crime shows the seasons are short….

  2. Have really enjoyed this last series – the last one maybe a bit wobbly, but on the whole well worth it all.

      1. I like the idea, but… no, I’m sorry. That’d mean engaging brain in times of disengagement. Evenings I can do little.
        Again, sorry.

Really love Vera and so pleased it will return. Would love to see more of Vera’s personal story included in story lines as it did more in the early season. Particularly, since Brenda is such a marvellous actress.
