Last year, spooky Australian crime drama The Kettering Incident – which was a mash-up of the crime and horror genres – garnered a cult viewership when it appeared on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
The series creator, Victoria Madden, is now back with a new eight-part drama, The Gloaming, produced by Madden and John Molloy (Molly, Boys in the Trees) in partnership with Disney’s ABC Studios International. It will air on Australian streaming service, Stan, according to TV Tonight [via The Medium Is Not Enough].
The Gloaming tells the story of when twilight space where light meets dark, the space between awake and asleep, where time passes but secrets linger. Unorthodox, troubled cop Molly McGee leads an investigation into the murder of an unidentified woman. To solve the case, Molly has to team up with Alex O’Connell – a man she hasn’t spoken to in twenty years – and they discover that the murder has links to a cold case from the past. What begins as a routine investigation exposes something more insidious, and to catch the killer, Molly and Alex have to face the ghosts of their past.
Variety says that, “the series will be shot in Tasmania, against the backdrop of Tasmania’s capital city Hobart and brooding outdoor locations. It will premiere on Stan in 2019.”
Another Australian Disney-affiliated show, Harrow, was recently picked up by UK channel, Alibi, so watch this space…
