Jack Reacher headed to television?

Lee Child’s hugely-successful Jack Reacher series could be headed to television, according to the author himself.

In conversation with John Grisham at a sold-out Royal Hall during the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Child lamented the current state of the movie industry and and the lack of opportunity tell long, arc-driven stories, and dangled the carrot that Jack Reacher maybe headed to television in the future.

“I shouldn’t really say this but since we’re in private… Maybe Jack Reacher will become a television series. Maybe on Netflix. But because Tom Cruise doesn’t act on television someone else will be playing Jack.”

Since 2012, Tom Cruise has played Reacher on the big screen in two movies.

Asked by Grisham whether the new Jack Reacher will be taller, Child replied: “You better believe it.”

A move to television and an impending  search for a new actor to play Reacher means that the movie franchise is dead in the water (although there has been no confirmation from either party yet).

More news as we get it.

The Killing Times Podcast – Episode 1, Denise Mina

The very first episode of The Killing Times Podcast features one of the UK’s most award-laden and talented crime writers.

Born in East Kilbride, Scotland,  Denise Mina has gone on to write 13 crime novels (some award-winning), plays and stories for graphic novels. Her latest story, The Long Drop, features a unique take on Scotland’s most norotious and frequent serial killer, Peter Manuel. The ITV drama In Plain Sight did a good job in telling that wretched man’s story, but Mina offers a fresh, innovative and hugely engrossing take on Manuel’s story.

I caught up with her at the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, North Yorkshire

We should also note that Denise meant to say Myra Hindley, not Maxine Peake (who played Hindley in the ITV series, See No Evil).
