It’s said that Coventry-born author Lee Child sells a Jack Reacher book every nine seconds, so it’s safe to say that he’s one of the world’s most popular and best-loved crime authors.

His main protagonist has embedded himself into the global consciousness, and Reacher has gone on to become a successful movie franchise, with a little-known actor called Tom Cruise in the starring role.

We managed to talk to Lee for a short time at the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate, a festival that he curated and chaired this year, and in our conversation we spoke about his time at Granada Television in the 1980s, Prime Suspect, Cracker, whether Jack Reacher would soon be coming to television, and his 23rd Reacher novel, Past Tense.
