Netflix picks up Indian series Delhi Crime

We all know that Netflix is searching high and low around the world for its next big hit, and India is a country that it has its eye on. Last year we had Sacred Games (see our review of that here), and now we have Delhi Crime.

Series one of the procedural is inspired by and follows the notorious December 2012 investigation by the Delhi Police into a devastating rape of a young woman that reverberated across India and the world.

Throughout seven hour-long episodes, Delhi Crime captures the complexities of the scrutiny, the emotional toll on the investigating team, and their determination to bring the perpetrators to justice in a fraught environment.

The police officer, Vartika Chaturvedi, is played by Shefali Shah, who leads a cast that includes Adil Hussain, Denzil Smith, Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang and Yashaswini Dayama.

It’s set to hit Netflix on 22nd March.

Whilst it’s important to keep cases like this prominent in people’s minds I do wonder about the ethical nature of dramatizing such a brutal real life event – it was so sickening I’d hope the makers treat the case with due care.
