The Sinner adds Matt Bomer for series three and reveals plotlines

The Sinner has the making of a quality anthology series.

Shown on Netflix in the UK (as well BBC Four) and USA Network in the US, it follows Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he investigates complex cases that look open-and-shut but are far from it.

Now it has been revealed that Matt Bomer will be series three’s main co-star, with new plotlines revealed.

In the first series, Ambrose delved into the past of a troubled young mother (Jessica Biel, pictured above), in order to determine why she fatally stabbed a man during a beach outing but has no memory of why she committed the crime.

Series two saw Ambrose return to his hometown of Keller, Upstate New York, to help investigate a double murder with Heather Novack, an old acquaintance’s daughter who has just made detective. A couple were found dead, apparently poisoned, in a motel room. Carrie Coon was the series’ main guest star.

The third season follows Ambrose as he begins a routine investigation of a tragic car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York. Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career.

Bomer will play Jamie, an upstanding Dorchester resident and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of an accident.
