Alibi confirms transmission date for Traces

UKTV channel Alibi, has confirmed the transmission date of its promising original series, Traces.

The six-part series is written by former Amelia Bullmore from a concept by best-selling crime novelist, Val McDiarmid. It stars Molly Windsor, Laura Fraser and Jennifer Spence, as well as Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston.

Here’s a trailer…

When Emma Hedges (Windsor) returns to Dundee to start her new job as a lab technician, she’s encouraged to take part in an online course teaching the principles of forensic science.

Given a fictitious murder case, her task is to identify the victim and establish how they died. But having completed the first module, Emma knows exactly who the victim is: her mum.

Emma’s mum Marie Monroe (Carly Anderson) was murdered when Emma was seven and the case was never solved, but now, years later, Emma has the opportunity to get to the bottom of her mother’s death, turning to chemistry professor Sarah Gordon (Fraser) and forensic anthropology professor Kathy Torrence (Spence) for answers.

As Emma reconnects with her dad Drew, as well as her childhood friend Skye and her mum Izzy, while also falling for the “gentle and irresistible” Daniel (Compston), her search for answers only uncovers more and more secrets.

Soon, it becomes clear that Emma should trust no one – but Sarah and Kathy’s exacting minds encourage Emma’s faith in the science to help her crack the case as they seek to bring Emma’s mother’s killer to justice.

We’ve got some exclusive content from the show, so look out for that very soon.

Traces: Monday 9th December, 9pm, Alibi

BBC One renews The Mallorca Files for a second series

It hasn’t even started yet but BBC One’s daytime series, The Mallorca Files, has already been recommissioned for a second series.

The series is set amongst the expat community on the eponymous Spanish island. While self-confessed introverted Brit Miranda Blake takes her career – as well as everything else in life – seriously, German Max Winter is a classic extrovert and unashamedly unconventional. Yet despite – or perhaps because of – their very different approaches, the sleuths form a perfect complimentary partnership as they seek to solve a new crime on the island each week.

The 10-episode drama series, which was created by Dan Sefton, stars Elen Rhys, Julian Looman, Maria Fernández-Ache, Nacho Aldeguer, Denis Schmidt and Tabata Cerezo.

BritBox co-produces for the US market.

The Mallorca Files (Series 1): Monday-Friday, from Monday 25th November, 2.15pm, BBC One
