The 10 Best Crime Dramas This Week (Monday 20th – Sunday 26th January)

It’s pretty much as you were this week, but there are some interesting notes to take onboard. The Deuce is on later this week, and we also – finally – see series 21 of Midsomer Murders begin. How ITV is going to play it out is anyone’s guess. Elsewhere, we say goodbye to Wisting and The Trial Of Christine Keeler. Enjoy!

After a vital discovery at the farm, Stan and Mick feel closer to shoring up their own suspicions about Jeremy. The arrival of Brett, a friend from New Zealand (played by Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen), increases tensions between Jeremy and Julie, while Ann grows ever more alarmed and suspicious of her cousin Jeremy’s behaviour, and his handling of the family estate. As preparations for the inquest continue, Stan is concerned that if the bodies are released for cremation, vital evidence will be lost for ever.

Cleaner Luke Sumner’s body is discovered close to his flat in Newcastle, but pathology concludes that the killing blow could have occurred several hours before he succumbed to his injuries, prompting Vera to piece together the victim’s final hours in order to investigate his murder. But Luke lived a simple life and had even severed all ties to the quaint rural village where he grew up – including his mother Carmel.

7 Silent Witness *NEW UK PREMIERE EPISODES*

The body of a woman is found on train tracks in London, badly damaged from electrical burns. On the mortuary slab, the woman’s recent and historic injuries suggest years of abuse, likely within the home. It is a difficult post-mortem for Nikki, as it stirs up troubling memories from her childhood.

Stephen’s life hangs in the balance as his sentence is decided at the Old Bailey, while Christine’s lie about Lucky Gordon haunts her and she faces trial for perjury. As Profumo rebuilds his reputation by working for an East London charity, and Mandy tries to make a career as a singer, Christine deals with the consequence of being labelled a liar and a prostitute, and reflects on happier days with Stephen and Mandy.

A touring dance extravaganza comes to Midsomer, but nobody sees the vicious rivalries and long-running feuds that are brewing behind the scenes – at least not until they erupt into murder. Barnaby’s investigation into the killing of a dancer is complicated by an unexpected visit from his father, while the sponsor of the event is at the centre of a conflict of his own as he tries to decide who should inherit his fortune.

When a dockworker is assassinated, Murdoch pursues elusive witness Robert Parker and learns anti-union thugs may be involved. His concern is the murderer is poised to kill again if not arrested first.

    On Friday, Babylon Berlin series 3 starts airing on Sky in Germany. 2 episodes per week. It will air sometime this year on other networks and Netflix.

    It was good to see Sian Reese-Williams (DCI Cadi John) on Silent Witness last night, albeit at a home for battered women. Seemed strange to hear her speaking English.
