NORDIC NOIR Netflix releases first trailer for The Chestnut Man

Søren Sveistrup’s novel The Chestnut Man (Kastanjemanden) is coming to Netflix this autumn and now the streaming giant has released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated series.

The Chestnut Man takes place in a quiet suburb of Copenhagen, where the police make a terrible discovery on a stormy October morning. A young woman is found brutally murdered in a playground and one of her hands is missing. Above her hangs a small man of chestnuts.

Ambitious, young detective Naia Thulin (Danica Curcic) and her new partner, Mark Hess (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) are assigned to the case and before long, they find a piece of mysterious evidence on the ‘chestnut man’ – evidence linking it all to a girl who disappeared a year earlier and was presumed dead: the daughter of Social Affairs Minister Rosa Hartung (Iben Dorner).

Look out for the six-part series later in the year.

  1. Oooh. I enjoyed this book and definitely thought it would make a solid film. Having said that I thought the same about The Snowman. Fingers crossed!

Remember reading the book when it came out and thought it had to be the dumbest book I’d read in some time. I’m sure that low bar will be a boone to the show, but in all honesty there are better books that could be adapted and better dramas that are more deserving of your time and attention than this illogical nonsense.
