US streaming service inks deal with Studiocanal for Spiral

Big news for our US readers.

We’re often asked by those living in America where they can watch beloved, hit French crime drama, Spiral.

Now news has reached us that all eight series of the superior detective drama will be coming soon to an American screen near you.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the MHZ Choice streaming service has inked a deal with French network Studiocanal to broadcast not only Spiral but also last year’s Paris Police 1900 (which came third in our crime dramas of the year).

“The big winners in this deal are the MHz Choice viewers who have a voracious appetite for high-quality, smart and entertaining French programming, the kind that we can count on from Studiocanal,” a spokesperson for the streaming service said.

Walter Presents announces Swiss supernatural crime drama Anomalia

Walter Presents has announced the arrival of another new crime series, this time from Switzerland.

Anomalia will premiere at the end of this month on Channel 4’s streaming service, All4. And the eight-episode series has got a touch of the supernatural to it.

Having recently separated from her husband, neurosurgeon Valérie Rossier moves back to her native region of Gruyère with her son Lucas. Upon taking up a new position at an exclusive clinic working under her former teacher and renowned professor Wassermann, strange events occur through which she gradually discovers her healing powers, starting with her believing she has run someone over. Secrets are slowly revealed about her true heritage and her family’s tragic history. Can rectifying an error from the past influence the present?

Anomalia will debut in the UK via Walter Presents on All4, from 29th April.

NORDIC NOIR SVT announces The Detective From Beledweyne

Swedish broadcaster SVT has announced a new crime drama – The Detective From Beledwyne – for 2023.

The six-episode series will begin filming this summer in Västra Götaland, and stars Malin Levanon and Nasir Dhagole. It tells the story of lawyer Tilda Renström – described as “narrow-minded and complacent” – who realises that the Somali refugee she is to deport is a dab-hand at solving crimes. 

Renström has recently been fired from his job as a prosecutor, but now she sees a chance to use the thoughts of the asylum seeker for her own purposes. However, he wants something in return. 

Look out for it spring 2023.

Netflix drops first trailer for Harlan Coben thriller

American best-selling crime author Harlan Coben has made a successful foray into the TV world, thanks to deals with Netflix and several foreign-language adaptations of his hit novels.

The next cab off the rank is Hold Tight, which has been made by Polish producers.

It stars Magdalena Boczarska and Leszek Lichota, and Hold Tight tells a story about residents of a peaceful neighbourhood in the Warsaw suburbs, whose idyllic life comes to an abrupt end when a teenager Adam vanishes into thin air and parents find answers to questions they have never wanted to ask.

It’s due to hit the streaming service on 22nd April.

Cannes Confidential to debut on Viaplay in 2023

A new romantic comedy crime drama is being developed by Nordic streaming service, Viaplay.

Cannes Confidential sees Camille Delmasse (Lucie Lucas) play a tough cop who can never lie. Harry King (Jamie Bamber) is her exact opposite – the international fraudster who can do nothing but lie. Their paths cross when Harry suddenly becomes a suspect in a murder investigation.

Never before has anyone annoyed Camille as much as Harry does – yet she can not resist being fascinated by him. Camille decides to find out who Harry really is, where he comes from and what he does in her hometown. Slowly but surely, their relationship grows and they suddenly come together to solve a crime in the hot Mediterranean heat. The question is how long will Camille be able to resist Harry’s charm?

The English-language series is set to premiere on the service next year.
