NORDIC NOIR Alibi announces acquisition of Black Sands from Iceland

UKTV channel, Alibi, has announced its first ever Nordic Noir acquisition.

From Iceland, Black Sands (Svörtu sandar) is an eight-episode series starring Aldís Amah Hamilton.

Anita, a DI in her thirties, is forced to return to the hometown she fled 14 years ago. A reckoning with her mother is inescapable, but when the body of a young woman is found, everything is upended. Anita is dragged down into the dark abyss of her past, looking for a possible serial killer and the reckoning turns into a nightmare.

The channel says the series will air in November, with the transmission date to be confirmed.

  1. Oct. 5, 2022 – “Anita, a DI in her thirties, is forced to return to the hometown she fled 14 years ago. A reckoning with her mother is inescapable,”. How many more series are viewers going to be subjected to that center on a female lead character that “decides” or is “forced” to return to their hometown? To solve some mystery, often urgently, and “to come to terms” with their past? Unfortunately for the hack writers that seem to write all the plots for Western “crime” dramas. The lead character in “Black Sands” is apparently too young to have the oft used and cliché recalcitrant teenaged daughter. But fear not… She does have mommy issues. Same old plot with just a different actress in the lead role. Viewers deserve better dramas than this kind of warmed-over tripe. We pay subscription services to supply us with quality entertainment.
