NORDIC NOIR Karppi start date and trailer unveiled

One of our favourite Nordic Noirs, from Finland no less is Karppi (or Deadwind in English). It’s due to begin its third and final series this month, and now we have a trailer.

In series three, Sofia Karppi (Pihla Viitala) and Sakari Nurmi (Lauri Tilkanen) once again work together in chasing a brutal murderer, whose victims are adorned with strange symbols. The case forces them both to face parts of their pasts they can no longer escape.

Here’s the trailer with English subtitles.

It starts on Friday 29th October in Finland and can be seen on Netflix in 2022.

Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

NORDIC NOIR Deadwind (Karppi) gets transmission date for series three

One of our favourite Nordic Noirs is Finnish series, Deadwind (or Karppi in its native language).

By now, we know the drill: It tells the story of Sofia Karppi (Pihla Viitala) returns to her work as a homicide detective in the Helsinki Police Department while taking care of two children after the accidental death of her husband. Rookie detective Sakari Nurmi (Lauri Tilkanen) is transferred from the financial crime unit to the homicide unit as Karppi’s partner.

Now on to its third – and final, alas – series, we now have details.

In series three, the duo once again works together in chasing a brutal murderer, whose victims are adorned with strange symbols. The case forces them both to face parts of their pasts they can no longer escape.

Finnish state broadcaster YLE says that the series will premiere in Finland on 29th October. Outside of Finland, it’s shown on Netflix so we’re expecting to access this much-anticipated series some time in 2022.

Finnish series Deadwind to debut on Netflix next month

Thanks to our eagle-eyed reader, Seija, for this news story.

Back in March we brought you news of a Finnish series that was doing rather well in its homeland (see that story here). Deadwind (or Karppi) told the story of Sofia Karppi, a detective in her 30s trying to get over her husband’s death. She discovers the body of a young woman on a construction site, she triggers a chain of events that threatens to destroy her life all over again. Struggling to be both the single mom her two grieving teenagers need and the brave detective she must be to solve the case, she can’t help but identify with the young victim and put her life at risk.

Here’s a trailer:

As with most things these days, Netflix has picked it up for all non-Finnish territories and has now announced a transmission date. We look forward to it.

Deadwind: from Thursday 23rd August, Netflix
