Last week’s third episode of Rellik was the first time in the series when all its disparate narrative strands began to fuse together. Up until that point, trying to review Rellik was like trying to review a shopping list – each scene stood on its own with no flow, and all you could really do is list what happened, hoping that things would make sense in the long run. Items in a basket. One after the other. This happened, then we went back and that happened. Then something else happened. Review: Rellik (S1 E2/6), Monday 18th September, BBC One

Last week’s opening episode presented us with a tricksy and challenging viewing experience – Rellik’s story started at the end and worked backwards¬†thanks to a series of rewinds and flashbacks. Many won’t have enjoyed this, and the jury was out for me, too. On the one hand, Rellik could be a daring, bold telling of what is a fairly by-the-numbers procedural story, that flips our consumption of information and clues on its head; or it could be based on a gimmick that doesn’t actually work. BBC confirms Rellik transmission date

It’s going to be a big week of crime drama action in the a few weeks’ time, with a couple of primetime series kicking off. One of them is Rellik, an intriguing new six-parter from the minds of Harry and Jack Williams, the sibling showrunners of The Missing. Indeed, that very same week, the Williams brothers have another new series starting on exactly the same time over on ITV. You won’t be able to move for them in this week. Continue reading
