Lennie James: Save Me 3 is ‘at a place where we know what we’re going to do’

We voted Lennie James’ sensational second series of Save Me at number two in our 2020 Crime Dramas Of The Year.

It was hoped that the dark urban noir – which sees James play a father in search of his kidnapped daughter – would be renewed for a third series, but in a recent interview with James Cordon, James gave the clearest indication yet that a third helping is on its way.

WHen asked if he had been working on a third series, James told Corden: “I have. I’ve been thinking almost about nothing else.”

He continued: “We had a conversation the other day and I think we’ve got to a place where we know what we’re going to do next time around.”

More news as we get it.

Sky Atlantic confirms transmission date for Save Me Too

We kind of can’t wait for series two of Lennie James’s Save Me – or Save Me Too as it’ll be called.

The first series was one of the darkest, most intense and impressive British crime dramas in recent years.

Now we know when it’ll appear on our screens.

It’s 17 months since Nelly Rowe rescued vulnerable young woman Grace while searching for his missing daughter Jody. Could Grace provide clues to Jody’s fate, or will she derail Nelly’s desperate quest to find his daughter – with potentially terrible consequences for him and those around him?

Look out for Leslie Manville joining the cast, too.

Sky Atlantic drops first trailer for series two of Save Me

The yellow puffer jacket is on its way back.

Sky Atlantic’s Save Me – which reached our top five in 2017’s best crime dramas – is set to return in a short while, complete with Lennie James in the title role as anti-hero, Nelly.

And now we have a trailer.

At the end of series one, Nelly was left devastated when his desperate search for his daughter Jody proved to be unsuccessful.  To find Jody he had been dragged into a dark underworld, took risks dangerous to himself and those closest to him, and challenged him to re-evaluate many of the decisions he has made about his life. All to find Jody.

Series two joins Nelly 17 months later.  Is he still looking for his daughter?  What hope is there of finding her? And if new evidence were to emerge what would it force Nelly to do next?

This second series, entitled Save Me Too, will see Lesley Manville join the cast as Jennifer Charles, the wife of Gideon (Adrian Edmondson). Jennifer is forced to make an almost impossible choice that will place her in direct conflict with Nelly, following the return of the vulnerable girl, Grace (Olive Gray), who Nelly rescued while searching for Jody.

Suranne Jones returns as Jody’s mum Claire who faces the dire possibilities of her daughter’s fate and Stephen Graham is back as Melon, who is attempting to start a new life with Bernie (Alice Feetham). Also returning are; Thomas Coombes (Goz), Kerry Godliman (Teens), Nadine Marshall (D.I O’Halloran), Susan Lynch (Stace) and Jason Flemyng (Tam).

Look out for it very soon.

Lesley Manville joins Save Me, plot lines for series two revealed

British drama Save Me was one of our favourites last year, and the Lennie James-starring series is coming back soon for a second run.

The first series told the story of Nelson ‘Nelly’ Rowe (James) and his search for Jody, his missing daughter. It also boasted an incredible ensemble cast that included Suranne Jones, Stephen Graham, Thomas Coombes, Kerry Godliman, Nadine Marshall, Susan Lynch and Jason Flemyng.

Now we know it has begun read-throughs for series two.

As the tweet above said, the outstanding actress Lesley Manville has joined the cast for series two.

“I couldn’t be more delighted to be joining this phenomenal series”, Manville said. “Save Me was a major highlight of 2018, a testament to Lennie James’ writing and acting and the exceptional cast and creative team.”

Manville will play Jennifer Charles, the wife of Gideon Charles. Jennifer is forced to make an almost impossible choice that will place her in direct conflict with Nelly, following the return of the vulnerable girl, Grace (Olive Gray), who Nelly rescued whilst searching for his own daughter Jody.

The show’s second season picks up 14 months after the events of season one, which saw Nelly left devastated after his desperate search for Jody was unsuccessful. He had been dragged into a dangerous underworld, taken risks that had proved precarious for himself and those closest to him and challenged Nelly to re-evaluate many of the decisions he had made about his life, all to find Jody. Now, fourteen months down the road, is he still looking? What hope is there of finding Jody? And if new evidence were to emerge, what would it force Nelly and those close to him to do next?

More news etc.

Review: Save Me (S1 E6/6), Wednesday 4th April, Sky Atlantic

Yes, I know. It has been two weeks since the final episode of Lennie James’ British redemption noir, Save Me, and I haven’t posted my review yet. Real life got in the way, unfortunately, but today – a Sunday – I’m finally sitting down to write a review of a show that has left me breathless and befuddled in equal measure. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a series that has conflicted me so much – there was so much brilliant stuff, and yet… In fact I’m still trying to process how this series made me feel and what I thought of it. Exclusive interview: Thomas Coombes, Save Me

I’ve been enjoying Save Me – Lennie James’s Sky Atlantic urban noir – but I’m not entirely sure that ‘enjoying’ is the right word. It has been one of the most difficult series I’ve ever watched, and after such an intriguing and jovial start, too. The series finale is tomorrow night (Wednesday 4th April), and I managed to catch up with one of the stars – Thomas Coombes, who plays Nelly Rowe’s (James) faithful lieutenant, Goz. He says some interesting things, which you can read after the jump. Continue reading Exclusive interview: Thomas Coombes, Save Me

Review: Save Me (S1 E5/6), Wednesday 28th March, Sky Atlantic

We’ve gone through the mill with Save Me – Lennie James’ often-superb, sometimes excruciating urban noir – but with only two episodes to go you got a sense that we had only just scratched the surface of a wound so rancid and pus-ridden, you almost wished it didn’t have to go there. But Nelly’s redemption is our redemption; and what Nelly sees and experiences, we see and experience, which means one thing – we’re with him all the way, whether we like it or not. Sky Atlantic confirms series two of Save Me

Sky Atlantic’s Save Me – Lennie James’s often stunning (and often bleak) British crime drama – has been recommissioned by Sky for a second series. It has been rumbling along on Sky Atlantic, but if you have Now TV you might have watched the whole series via its boxset service. So we won’t say too much about the ending of series one, but what we can say is that it’ll be back for a second run and both Lennie James and Suranne Jones are onboard. Continue reading Sky Atlantic confirms series two of Save Me

Review: Save Me (S1 E4/6), Wednesday 21st March, Sky Atlantic

The first three episodes of this excellent urban noir have careered from one thing to the other, the other being a dark-as-night story of a potential paedophile ring in south London. We saw this storyline developing in episode three, and now, as the final half of the series begins, we were fully thrown down into the rabbit hole and to a hell of no return. The only question is: will Nelly, Claire and Jody come out of the other side? Actually, will we come out of the other side unscathed? Continue reading Review: Save Me (S1 E4/6), Wednesday 21st March, Sky Atlantic

Review: Save Me (S1 E3/6), Wednesday 14th March, Sky Atlantic

So far Save Me has had a bit of everything – starting off in a hugely naturalistic, rhythmic and familiar fashion, as we were introduced to Nelson ‘Nelly’ Rowe (Lennie James) and his motley crew of mates who lived in and around a south London housing estate. Then, his carefree life changed – shockingly, irrevocably: the daughter he had not seen for a decade was abducted, on her way to see him. This shocked Nelly into a paternal panic – it was down to him to find his missing daughter. Continue reading Review: Save Me (S1 E3/6), Wednesday 14th March, Sky Atlantic
