BBC iPlayer has a 12-minute catch-up video for Luther

Earlier today I put up a post that included some bits and bobs to prepare for the imminent arrival of one of the UK’s biggest dramas and exports, Sherlock. Now here’s news of another one of the country’s biggest hitters – Luther – which is even more imminent. Like tomorrow night imminent.

BBC confirms Luther transmission date

It’s been a bit of a day of confirmed transmission dates. First we had ITV confirming the kick-off date for series two of Prey, and now word reaches us that the BBC has detailed the transmission date for Luther. While not a full series, the two-parter is a belter. So much for winding down for the Christmas period… December’s going to be busy!

First Look: Luther

Luther is one of the UK’s premium-brand crime dramas and one of the country’s most successful global exports. It has helped to solidify Idris Elba’s status as a household name and as a CILF (work it out yourself), but more importantly it has introduced us to another angry detective, Neil Cross’s creation involving himself in some thrilling, terrifying cases and some intriguing character dynamics that placed this iconic character in the grey area between good and bad. There were rumours it was the end for Luther and he was only going to appear in big screen outings from now on, but he’s back next month for another (very short) run on BBC1.

New Luther special begins filming, Rose Leslie joins cast

Late last year we were told that 2015 would be a big year for crime drama fans because three of the titans of contemporary British crime drama would be making a return. Not only would we be getting Broadchurch, and some new Sherlock at the end of the year, but also some Luther. A new two-pat special had been mooted and this week that two-part special started filming in east London, with new cast members, including Game Of Thrones’ Rose Leslie.
