Thanks to our lovely Finnish reader Seija, I now know when and where I’ll be able to watch Finnish series Bordertown. I’ve been keeping my eye on the series ever since it was announced – despite the boom in Scandinavian and Nordic crime drama, Finnish output has been scarce. I have a soft spot for the country and want it to join the crime drama party, so when Bordertown was announced I was eager to see it. Thankfully we’ll all now get the chance.

Created by Miikko Oikkonen, the story goes something a bit like this: Detective Inspector Kari Sorjonen (Ville Virtanen) is one of the most respected officers at the National Bureau of Investigation in Finland. When his wife barely survives brain cancer, Sorjonen decides to take his family to an idyllic small town near the border of Russia, to live a quiet peaceful life. But how peaceful is life on the border between two worlds? Judging the nature of the show and the relationship between Finland and Russia, not too peaceful.

I was kind of hoping that the BBC would pick it up for its BBC4, 9pm Saturday-night slot, but alas… instead Netflix has acquired the 11-part series, to start streaming on 31st March.

    1. Sharon,

series 2 of Hooked is being filmed as I write this. It will be shown in Finland in early 2019 so you may expect it on your choice of streaming platform later that year?

      1. Any more Scandinavian series on Netflix we should be looking out for? We loved “the break!”

  1. You are in for such a treat! I love Kari and his quirks! I was actually hoping that you were announcing a Bordertown 2. It would be criminal not to extend this great ensemble. Enjoy!

PS I’ve watched this on US Netflix (Texas) about a month ago.
