The Disappearance racks up record viewing figures on BBC4; is released on DVD in July

We all know that French series The Disappearance was this year’s best pure whodunit so far, and that was reflected in its ratings on BBC4 – behind Trapped and The Young Montalbano, The Disappearance was the third most-watched drama on the channel this year, and number one with young adults. No mean feat that. I bloody loved it – it was full of interesting and likeable characters, solid structure, superb acting and a twisty-turny plot that kept us guessing until (almost) the very last. What’s more, the series is being released on DVD and it’s not long until it’s available to buy.

The Euro 2016 Of Crime Drama continues today with a return to Group B, to catch up with Scotland’s Shetland and Germany’s Cenk Batu. Shetland kicked off its campaign with an impressive victory over Hinterland in its opening game. Now it’s back in the spotlight for the Scottish representative, with a match-up it should, on paper, win relatively easily.

Has Twin Peaks plot been revealed?

It’s always fun to speculate how a new series or movie will take shape, and in the case of Twin Peaks – that cultiest of cult shows – the rumour machine is just starting to crank into gear. At the end of it all I think someone should write something about the whole process of bringing back Twin Peaks to the small screen, because it has been a rollercoaster ride. But it is definitely happening and now we have our first idea of what the story might be. Or not, as the case may be.
