BBC releases new trailer for Jed Mercurio’s Bodyguard

Full disclosure: I don’t think the BBC’s upcoming series, Bodyguard, is especially crimey but we bring you news of it because it’s written and created by Line Of Duty showrunner, Jed Mercurio, and it stars a LOD alum, Keeley Hawes.

Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the fictional story of David Budd (Game Of Thrones’ Richard Madden), a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service.

When he is assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague (Hawes), Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, could he become her biggest threat?

Here’s the first trailer:

Other cast members include the always-brilliant Gina McKee and Sophie Rundle, and we’re expecting this to hit pretty much as soon as the World Cup is over (like a lot of other stuff).

For me, Keeley Hawes is like the newer, more dangerous Mary Tyler Moore … I just have to watch her.
